Citizen science encounters many problems. These pitfalls include issues with depth of engagement, communication, task complexity, methodology, and involvement quality. Additionally, problems can arise from inadequate participant and researcher training, poorly designed protocols, and a lack of clarity regarding the goals of citizen and community engagement.
